Chairman's Barge Trip

May 2003

An Event Organized by

New Forest Region JEC

The Region enjoyed an excellent day cruising on the Basingstoke canal on the barge John Pinkerton - As can be seen a fine vessel

The vessel was well equipped - though initial "refreshments" were tea and coffee. Oh and there was seating and toilet facilities as well.

The barge is run with proceeds going to the renovation of the canal

The weather was fine on arrival a little overcast but just before boarding it rained!! Fortunately we were boarded early. The rain stopped before we left and we had good weather for the whole trip – even some sunshine.

And where have you two been – a final cigarette out of the rain!

A typical view from the barge – and what a lot of wildlife – fish, birds etc.

The saloon showing the intrepid voyagers enjoying their trip.

Such activities are thirsty work and some refreshment was needed.

A relaxing journey, a little sunshine, good company and fine ale – what more can one ask!

Another satisfied customer

Carol and Al prepare to enjoy working off their thirst – spot the non-drivers

The jetty at the end of the trip – some members disembarked for a short stroll - others didn’t.

And to finish another typical scene.
